How it Works

Tennis the way young children learn

COMOOON! characters at the tennis net

Teaching tennis to children under six is a real challenge. Not because they are too young to learn, but because traditional coaching methods were never designed around how a new generation of children learns, takes in information and experiences the world.

COMOOON! takes a different approach: a structured tennis education system for children aged 3–8, built around the ways young children learn best — through observation, imitation, movement and play — and around the environment they actually grow up in.

Today’s children are surrounded by visual content, and a short, engaging animation can communicate a movement far more effectively than a lengthy verbal explanation. COMOOON! uses specially designed animated characters that demonstrate tennis exercises and invite children to watch, imitate and join in. Instead of listening to long explanations, children learn by watching and doing — making their first experience of tennis more intuitive, engaging and enjoyable.

What a COMOOON! lesson looks like

COMOOON! includes 150+ fully developed lessons — not a collection of individual drills, but a structured progression that takes children from their first grip to proper technique.

Every session follows a consistent format: warm-up, 3–4 exercises demonstrated through cartoons, 1–2 games and a cool-down. Each stage has a defined duration and a step-by-step plan. Coaches simply open the lesson and follow the program, without spending hours preparing sessions or searching for suitable exercises.

The cartoons are what make the approach different. In just one minute, children see the movement they are about to learn — something that might otherwise take several minutes to explain. Engaging characters hold their attention, help maintain concentration and keep young learners from getting bored with the sport. By showing rather than telling, COMOOON! makes instructions easier to understand and leaves more time for what matters most: practice and joy.

For a child, it comes down to two simple steps: see it, repeat it.

Coaching meets psychology

COMOOON! is developed by ITF-certified tennis coaches in collaboration with child psychologists. Every element of the program is carefully structured around how young children learn and develop — from the duration of each activity to the balance of physical and mental effort, with play introduced exactly when attention needs refreshing. The goal isn’t simply to keep children engaged during a lesson. It’s to make them excited to come back for the next one.

Four characters, four temperaments

Terry, Larry, Gabby and Tiggy each represent one of the four classical temperament types — melancholic, phlegmatic, choleric and sanguine. Taylor, their coach, guides them through every lesson.

This isn’t decoration. Children differ in how they respond to challenges, competition and encouragement. A choleric child thrives on competition and hard tasks; a phlegmatic one needs to work at their own pace with steady encouragement. Every COMOOON! Coach learns to recognise these differences and adapt their teaching accordingly. And children relate to the characters that reflect their own personalities, which makes demonstrations more engaging and easier to follow.

No tennis court? No problem!

COMOOON! can be delivered on a wide range of suitable surfaces, starting from 30 m² of activity space. A sports hall, a playground or any other safe, level area is enough — so the program can be introduced even where no tennis facilities exist.

What children take away

Just as a good kindergarten prepares children for school, COMOOON! prepares them for tennis. By the end of the program, children can play over the net, understand the fundamentals of the game and — most importantly — have discovered a genuine love for sport.
